Music

“Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything.” - Plato

Kimberley College is proud to provide the opportunity for students to experience the expressive qualities of music and the joy of learning a musical instrument through participation in our Instrumental Music program.

Music is often considered to be the ultimate expression of humanity. Kimberley College aims to provide reliable and genuine learning opportunities and arts experiences that allow students to self-express and grow as an individual. With a focus on collaboration and respect, we aim to work together as a school community to achieve success in all facets of arts education.

Co-Curricular Music Program

Kimberley College offers a specialist classroom music program across our Middle and Primary schools. Our program starts right at the beginning of the school years with Kokomini (prep students) enjoying musical games and activities within their classrooms to get them engaged with the music around them. This play-based learning continues throughout Years 1 to 6 as we introduce our students to theory, performance and composition at developmentally appropriate levels using the national curriculum guidelines.

In addition to their practical learning, students have the opportunity to develop their musical understanding further when entering a technology-based environment throughout their Middle School years. Our Middle School boats - Barada, Jagera, Lama Lama, Maikulan - each participate in music lessons for a singular term where they are able to develop their creativity and self expression. Our approach at Kimberley College is one that not only provides accessibility to music curriculum for all types of learners, but delivers this with a student-led learning approach and key skill sets required for students' success in their future.

Extra-Curricular Music Program

Kimberley College is proud to provide the opportunity for students to experience the expressive qualities of music and the joy of learning a musical instrument through participation in our Instrumental Music program, as well as our college choirs and ensembles.

Instrumental lessons are available for piano, guitar, drums, vocals, violin and cello. Ensembles are available for guitarists from Year 3 to 12, with our college also offering performance and primary choirs.

The Kimberley College Rock Band program provides eager instrumentalists the opportunity to participate in weekly lessons forming their own bands. With a key focus on collaboration, this program is designed to strengthen students' already present musical abilities. This is available for students from Years 5 to 12.

Kimberley College Instrumental Music students will be provided with opportunities to perform at college events such as the fundraising fair, assemblies, instrumental showcase, graduation ceremonies, and the Kimberley College musical that is held every two years.

For more information about instrumental music lessons, please contact music@kimberley.college.

It is our hope that through these opportunities’ students will develop a greater sense of belonging and contribute to an exciting, dynamic, and passionate College culture.
