Kimberley College offers a specialist classroom music program in the Middle and Primary schools. Music is often considered to be the ultimate expression of humanity. As Plato once said, “Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything.” Our Program starts right at the beginning of the school years with Kokomini (Prep students) enjoying musical games and activities to get them engaged with the music around them. The play-based learning continues through the primary years as we introduce students to notation, theory, performance and composition at developmentally appropriate levels, using the national curriculum guidelines.
In addition to classroom-based music curriculum, Middle school students also have the opportunity to take their musical understanding and develop this further in a technology-based environment. Students will gain first-hand experience in digital audio recording, midi sequencing, effects processing and final production of their pieces. This technology-based approach prepares students for the current and future reality of working in the Creative Arts Industry. Our approach at Kimberley College is one that not only provides accessibility to music curriculum for all types of learners but delivers this with a student-led learning approach and the key skill sets required for student success in their musical future.
