Extension Programs (English & Mathematics)
Our English and Mathematics Extension Programs are designed for high-achieving students at Kimberley College who demonstrate strong academic ability, motivation, and a passion for learning.
These invitation-only enrichment programs provide opportunities for students to extend beyond the standard curriculum, engage in advanced learning, and develop higher-order thinking skills alongside like-minded peers.
English Extension Program
The English Extension Program is an advanced learning opportunity designed to strengthen critical thinking, communication, and analytical skills in high-performing students.
Program Overview
- A term-based novel study conducted outside regular English Lessons
- Curriculum workshops during school hours led by the program coordinator
- Access to a dedicated Microsoft Teams Group with fortnightly check-ins
- Enrichment opportunities throughout the year, including activities beyond the classroom
Student Expectations
Students are invited into the program are expected to:
- Maintain high academic performance in English
- Demonstrate positive behaviour, commitment and industry
- Engage actively in all extension learning opportunities
Participation is optional, however strongly encouraged for students wishing to extend their communication and analytical capabilities through academic enrichment.
Mathematics Extension Program
The Mathematics Extension Program focuses on developing advanced problem-solving, reasoning, and mathematical thinking skills through engaging and challenging enrichment tasks.
Program Overview
- Fortnightly lunchtime sessions led by the Head of Faculty
- Exploration of problems sources from leading enrichment organisations, including:
- Australian Maths Trust
- Australian Mathematics Competition
- Weekly or fortnightly extension tasks integrated into regular mathematics lessons
Learning Approach
- Collaborative discussions to share problem-solving strategies
- Opportunities to refine reasoning and mathematical communication
- Targeted feedback to support advanced learning and improvement
Additional Opportunities
- Preparation and support for mathematics competitions
- Potential participation in excursions and enrichment activities

Entry into our Kimberley College’s extension programs is by invitation only, based on academic performance, teacher recommendation, and demonstrated commitment to learning.
These gifted and talented enrichment programs provide students with opportunities to:
