FROM THE PRINCIPAL'S DESK Tuesday, 19 May 2026

This year, our student leaders have gifted our community a theme that is as bold as it is inspiring: “Suit Up, Show Up.”

Simple. Memorable. And, as College Principal Mr Glenn Johnson reminds us, it “challenges every one of us.”

While both parts of the theme matter, parents will appreciate the deeper meaning behind the second half — showing up with purpose. As Mr Johnson shared, showing up isn’t just about arriving at school or taking a seat in class. “Showing up with purpose means understanding why you are here and choosing to give your best because of it.”

For our young people, that sense of purpose becomes a powerful driver.
Purpose shapes them. Purpose drives effort. Purpose builds character.

Purpose in Action Across Our College

Every day, we see purpose in motion in ways that parents often witness at home too. When students put on their uniforms with pride, apply themselves to their studies, train hard with their team, rehearse with their cast, or take on the challenges of camp — what you’re seeing is more than participation.

It is, as Mr Johnson described, “purpose in action.”

And there is another important layer to this: purpose fosters belonging.

When a student suits up in their uniform, they are expressing:
“I belong here.”

When they come prepared for learning, they are saying:
“My learning matters.”

When they encourage their teammates or classmates, they declare:
“We matter.”

This is what belonging looks like in our community — not simply fitting in but belonging with purpose.

Purpose Matters Most on the Harder Days

Parents know the reality of the school week more intimately than anyone. You see the evenings when motivation dips, when assessments feel daunting, when training leaves them tired, or when friendships come with challenges.

These moments are not setbacks — they are opportunities. As Mr Johnson emphasised, this is where character is formed.

Purpose builds character.

Purpose is what keeps students steady when life isn’t.
It helps them:

  • avoid drifting
  • take ownership of their efforts
  • choose their attitudes
  • respond with resilience, especially when it's difficult

These skills matter not only in school, but for life.

Lifting Our College, One Day at a Time — Together

Every student has the ability to lift the tone and culture of our College simply by how they show up each day: wearing the uniform with pride, contributing in class, supporting their peers, and giving their best — not perfectly, but purposefully.

Parents play a vital role in this journey. Your encouragement, routines, reminders, conversations, and support make a profound difference in helping your children show up with purpose.

As we continue through the term, Mr Johnson encourages all students — and our entire community — to embrace this mindset:

  • We don't just attend - we contribute.
  • we don't just participate - we commit.
  • We don't just show up - we show up with purpose.

Suit up | Show up | An show up with purpose.
